“Water’’ – An endangered life partner
—:: Sumaan Kundu ::—
“Water is Life’’ or “Life is Water’’. A very big question here arises with full swing. As a people of the growing nation which is committed to digitization we must not forget the aspect of water crisis awaiting the future. ‘Water, Water everywhere but not a single drop to drink’ – this must not be the expression of next generation inhabitant of India. Rapid globalization has changed the overall scenario of pollution everywhere in our country. Due to ‘’GREEN HOUSE EFFECT’’ melting of glacier has raised an alarming situation in this fast urbanizing world. Sea level is rising day by day and the people on the bank of the ocean are in danger. This does not mean that this rising water level of seas will solve or fulfill the daily requirement of drinking water because this salted water is not potable. In many modern equipped cities people are buying water to drink. A semi – modern country like India is facing a grave shortage of water. The level of underground water is declining drastically to make us to think how we should utilize it. As a result we are watching that deep tube wells are disappearing rapidly. Water pollution i.e. the presence of arsenic in water is also a point of discussion in this deep tube well disappearing episodes. Submersible pumps in village area and in the flats of polluted cities are increasing sharply. When we are thinking cultivation of modern crops with modern techniques these types of pumps have become very much essential. These powerful pumps are sucking underground water. As a result the level of water is decreasing drastically. It is the same story in urban area also. Powerful submersible pumps are installed in skyscraper and these pumps are pulling underground water, bringing the water level in an alarming situation. Many industries are also consuming a huge quantity of water and discharging it’s affluent in river or sea by ignoring the tolerance level.
If this grave situation persists for another few years the modern civilization will face a dismal future. We should start the awareness that not to spoil or misuse water from very primary level. It should be taught in nursery classes that how we should use or preserve this endangered precious liquid. As we preach that “Children are the future of nation’’, we should also apply the same in material life so as to show a measure of minimum love for the next generation. “Water conservation or preservation’’ must be a regular subject in the ground level education system. The learned persons- like us should bear the torch of such a gallant endeavor. To avoid water pollution the Government should take stern action so as to cope up this truculent situation. Water Tax or Water Cess should be imposed to make aware common people not to misuse the limited available surface water in any manner.
Tree plantation is one of the greatest initiatives throughout the world. We should also follow this process to maintain the minimum level of surface water. To store rain water is also the modern conservation theory of water. Now – a – days high rises are capturing rain drops in roof top tank to avail water in scorching heat of summer season. Scarcity of this life saving liquid is a global problem so we should be very careful to tackle this increasing complication. People should be prepared to face all odds during summer season not by blocking railway tracks or roads in protest. Single drops of water should be preserved like diamond or gold. From village to city, Panchayat to Municipalty an awareness campaign must be conducted throughout the year by the administration to fight against this problem. Nationwide consciousness and vigil with the rank and file people will reduce the probability to view the dreadful scene, as has been observed, that the defense personnel are guarding this endangered life partner in near future. “SAVE WATER, SAVE LIFE’’ should be the only slogan of the modern civilization.
